Aedas, a designer group working in Shenzhen, China, with China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group and Shenzhen Urban Transport Consortium, has won the plan for Qingshuihe Comprehensive Transportation Hub, with Shenzhen noted as a transit-oriented development with a high degree of station-city integration, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports. With this decision, the location will become a major transportation hub in Shenzhen, with four urban rails, one intercity line, one high-speed rail line and various forms of ground transportation. The design draws inspiration from the natural environment of the area, integrating nature and water elements into the high-density city. The circulation between the high-speed rail and the subway was a key consideration in the design. Beside the installment of soft partitions and escalators, the design allocates the subway with a large transfer scale near the hub to maximize transfer efficiency. By redirecting passenger flow through layered underground segmenting, the compact layout minimizes transfer time and improves efficiency. The nearly 2.2 m2 project is expected to be completed in 2025.
