Lift Entrapment in Noida, India, Raises Safety Concerns

The entrapment of a 16-year-old boy in a lift in a newly constructed condominium tower in Noida, India, on August 11 raises safety concerns, despite passage of the Uttar Pradesh Lifts and Escalators Act 2024 in February, The Times of India reports. The boy was attempting to take the lift from the 13th to the ground floor of the tower in Greater Noida when it became stuck on the eighth floor. When a guard arrived to assist, the lock malfunctioned, and residents ended up using a crowbar to pry open the door and release the boy — an incident that was captured on video. The boy’s mother said the lift has been in poor working condition since the tower was constructed last year. A property representative failed to respond to multiple requests for comment.
