The 25-story, 284-ft-tall Ascent, developed by New Land Enterprises and designed by Thornton Tomasetti at 700 East Kilbourne Avenue in Milwaukee, was officially declared the world’s tallest mass timber hybrid building at a ceremony on July 20, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) reports. New Land Enterprises welcomed guests from CTBUH and the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) to the event, which included Governor Tony Evers establishing the third week of July as “Mass Timber Week” in Wisconsin. DSPS was instrumental in updating state building codes to allow more mass-timber projects without comprising safety. General contractor C.D. Smith Construction previously told ELEVATOR WORLD that Otis provided the elevator system for Ascent, which houses 259 units and is currently leasing.
