Ministry of Health Replacing Six Elevators in Hospital in Fiji

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Fiji has begun the FJD1 million (US$427,541) process of replacing six elevators at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva, fijivillage News reports. Minister of Health Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu has confirmed that four new elevators have already arrived at the hospital where installation will begin soon. The hospital’s current elevators are approximately 30 years old, which has left the units vulnerable to issues causing critically ill patients in need of emergency surgery to have to be carried down the stairs. Lalabalavu said the replacement of the four elevators will take more than 50 weeks since the work will have to be done in phases to ensure the hospital can remain operational throughout the installations.
