Diligent Robotics Inc. announced in February that its Moxi mobile manipulator surpassed 1 million deliveries across its entire fleet, according to The Robot Report. Moxi completed its millionth delivery as part of pharmacy run to an outpatient infusion center at a hospital in Chicago, which is one of its more common workflows to save nurses time and get medicine to patients as quickly as possible. “Our robots are continually learning about being mobile and manipulating in a busy human environment,” said Andrea Thomaz, co-founder and CEO of Diligent. One element of Moxi that sets it apart from other mobile manipulators is that it is working with people: Moxi is constantly getting on and off elevators, going through busy hallways and collecting people’s badge information to ensure that every delivery is going to the right place. While Moxi is currently interacting with healthcare staffers, Thomaz said many hospitals are interested in using it for more patient-facing tasks. Diligent Robotics is looking into expanding the robot‘s capabilities to include non-clinical deliveries, like bringing pillows or water to patients. These capabilities will also open the door for eventually putting Moxi into different care environments.
