Navi Mumbai, India, Railway Stations To Get Escalators Soon

None of the rail stations in the city of Navi Mumbai, India, have escalators, but that situation is set to change, as the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has floated tender funding to pay for installations at all the outlets, The Free Press Journal reports. The proposal was raised in 2021, when Thane Member of Parliament Rajan Vichare visited the city’s 11 railway stations and promised to set up escalators or elevators. CIDCO plans to hire a contractor for the design, manufacture, installation and tests of escalators at all Navi Mumbai railway stations. In addition, the contractor will be required to provide necessary electrical, instrumentation and civil work, including operation and maintenance for five years. Once the contract is awarded, installation at the stations will be completed within an estimated 15 months.
