NEII Provides Code Development Updates

National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) recently provided updates on the A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The public review period for changes to the 2022 edition has closed, and the A17 Standards Committee is preparing responses to comments, with the 2022 edition scheduled for publication in the fourth quarter of 2022. Committee action hearings for proposed Group B updates to the 2024 I-Codes — including existing building code, residential code, structural elements for the public building code and the energy conservation code — are planned in Rochester, New York, on March 24-April 6. Group A changes were completed in 2021. The committee for the ICC A117.1 Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities has started reviewing proposed revisions for the next cycle, with a goal to complete the work in time to publish by the end of 2023.
