Nippon Otis Elevator Co. provided 14 digitally connected, smart elevators to the new Azabudai Hills mixed-use complex in Tokyo, Nippon Otis announced on March 21. The order includes four Gen2® Premier lifts to serve the new Tokyo landmark, which combines upscale commercial, retail, residential and cultural facilities — including a school, temple and art galleries — within more than 161,700 m2 in the heart of downtown. Also including 24,000 m2 of publicly accessible green space, Azabudai Hills was designed by Britain’s Thomas Heatherwick, who also designed the elevator lobbies and cars. Elevators in the commercial and residential areas feature a curved design, and materials that include glass, stainless steel and wood create an upscale ambiance. Some of the units are equipped with a touchless control panel with infrared sensors designed for passenger convenience and wellbeing. To maximize uptime, the elevators are equipped with the Otis ONETM 24/7 monitoring system powered by Internet of Things technology.
