North America’s First Skyliner Elevator Opens at the Space Needle

The Space Needle’s new Skyliner elevator, the first of its kind in North America and only the second in the world, opened to the public on May 23 in Seattle, Washington, outlets including PR Newswire report. The double-deck glass high rise SkyMotionâ„¢ 800 elevator was built by Otis and features floor-to-ceiling glass and a 46-passenger capacity. The elevator is one of three Otis SkyRiseâ„¢ sightseeing elevators that the company will modernize for the Space Needle as part of the Space Needle’s Century Project renovation. The project started in 2017 and included Otis installing a material lift and a custom-built accessibility lift on the upper floors of the tower. Otis built the original Space Needle elevators in 1962, modernized them in 1992 and has been maintaining them over the years.
