Paterson, New Jersey-headquartered Liberty Elevator Corp., working with Paul J. Scariano, Inc., provided a new elevator that makes the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Purdy’s Station the third Metro-North station to be made fully accessible in 2024, MTA announced at a February 22 press conference. The North Salem, New York, station had already been accessible with two elevators, but the new elevator and a connecting sidewalk bring it into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Purdy’s Station joins two others on the Harlem Line — Hartsdale and Scarsdale — to complete accessibility upgrades in 2024. Under its current capital plan, MTA is moving forward with accessibility upgrades at three Metro-North stations in the Bronx: Woodlawn and Williams Bridge, which will each receive new elevators, and Botanical Garden, which will have its elevators modernized.
