The NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) recently opened new elevators, expanding access for riders by making the stations fully accessible. The MTA unveiled a brand-new elevator on the southbound platform at the Eighth Avenue Station that aims to help riders with disabilities, News 12 The Bronx reports. Additionally, the MTA recently debuted elevators at the Dyckman Street subway station and the Court Square station in Queens, Spectrum News NY 1 reports. These installations are part of an effort to install 29 new elevators at subway stations across all five boroughs, officials said. Since 2020, the MTA has made 20 stations fully accessible, with another 31 stations in construction. Work will be completed at nine other stations by the end of this year, according to officials. The MTA work is funded through the 2020-2024 Capital Program, which earmarks US$5.2 billion to make a total of 67 stations accessible.
