Otis announced that the team from Pembroke Pines Charter High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida is the global winner of the fifth Made to Move Communities™ student challenge. The Pembroke Pines students earned their school a total of US$35,000 in grants for being the winners of the annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competition. The winning team’s idea is a smartphone app that uses AI to aid visually impaired people. The competition consisted of more than 250 students from 28 schools who, with the guidance of Otis volunteer mentors, designed and proposed innovative ways for AI to improve inclusive urban mobility in their communities. The students presented their ideas to Otis judges in each of the company’s four regions: Americas, Asia Pacific, China and EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa), and the Pembroke Pines team was one of four regional winners.
