PPP-Maintained FoBs in Indian City Lack Working Elevators

Bharat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the administrative body responsible for civic amenities in greater Bengaluru, India, has found that many foot overbridges (FOBs) maintained under the public-private partners (PPP) model are in poor condition and lack or have inoperable elevators, the Deccan Herald reports. The source checked a few locations and found that lifts at most were inoperable, “posing a challenge for the elderly and disabled.” At the Majestic Skywalk, for example, which connects several bus stands and stations, locked doors, a food cart covered in a tarpaulin and two switched-off lifts were found. On the upside, the FOB at Sankey Road was found to be clean and well-maintained, equipped with an escalator that was “clean and working properly.”
