On May 31 and 30, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) introduced a rebuilt escalator and a new canopy on Market Street at the Embarcadero and Montgomery stations, respectively, Hoodline was among outlets to report. According to BART documents, Schindler was awarded the US$96.4-million contract for the Market Street Escalators Renovation Project in 2019. In addition to the modernized escalator at Embarcadero that carries passengers from the platform to the concourse level, escalator overhauls were nearly complete in June at the Civic Center and Powell Street stations. The canopy at the Market Street station entrance will protect both commuters and new escalator equipment from the elements.
