The redeveloped Kollam railway station in the state of Kerala in southwest India, which will be served by new vertical-transportation (VT) equipment, is slated for completion six months ahead of schedule in December 2025, The Hindu reports. Demolition of existing buildings has largely been completed to make way for a new 55,000-ft2, five-story terminal building with two escalators, eight lifts, a baggage scanner and more. A 36-m-wide concourse will connect that building to another terminal served by four escalators and four elevators. Compared to a mall, the concourse will be open to the public rather than restricted to ticket-holding passengers. In addition, a five-story parking garage with space for 150 cars and more than 230 bicycles is taking shape.
