Early bird registration is now open for the Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat’s (CTBUH) signature annual conference, Tall Excellence: Seeking the Ideal in Vertical Urbanism, on Nov. 9-12 in Chicago. The event will feature  Merdeka 118, which, once completed, will be the world’s second tallest tower, as CTBUH has announced the event’s confirmed Diamond Sponsor: PNB Merdeka Ventures, the investment institution behind Merdeka 118. And Karl Fender, whose firm Fender Katsalidis Architects is the designer for Merdeka 118, will be delivering a keynote address on the design of supertalls, with a special focus on projects throughout Southeast Asia and Australia. November’s conference will also be the launch CTBUH’s latest edition of The World’s 100 Tallest Buildings. Tall Excellence will be held at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel in downtown Chicago. Completed in 2009, Aqua Tower was itself recognized as a Best Tall Building Americas winner in the CTBUH 2010 Awards Program. The conference will tackle the challenge of a new type of urban density, one that seeks to provide more than just functional space and a marketable skyline. The program consists of the awards conference, educational programs, workshops, off-site tours and networking events. Early bird registration ends June 24.
