RTD-Denver’s Open Elevator Door Policy Curbs Service Calls

A pilot program initiated in March by the Regional Transportation District in Denver, Colorado (RTD-Denver) is resulting in a significant reduction in calls for service, and RTD plans to expand the program — which keeps elevator doors open when elevators are not in use — beyond the three original stations, Denverite is among outlets to report. At two of the three stations — Colorado and Southmoor — RTD noted a 121% reduction in calls for service. At the Colorado Station, calls related to narcotics activity, “by far the most frequent call type,” fell by approximately 62%. Overall calls at one of the three stations, Nine Mile, increased, but RTD said these elevators were out of service for much of the 2023 comparison period. RTD will now roll out the program at three additional stations: Colfax, Lakewood/Wadsworth and Sheridan.
