Schindler Completes La Guardia Work Ahead of Schedule

With sometimes 30 mechanics on-site six days a week, Schindler completed installation of 20 elevators, 21 escalators and four moving walks at NYC’s La Guardia airport in only 18 months, Schindler announced on November 21. Schindler La Guardia Project Manager Cereza Escobar attributes the accomplishment to “great teamwork,” not only among Schindler employees but also with other trades, as well as the silver lining provided by the pandemic: Having fewer people in the airport considerably shortened a project originally estimated to take approximately three years, Escobar said. The Schindler equipment is part of a US$4 billion new Terminal C at LaGuardia, the oldest commercial airport in NYC that first offered flights in 1939. In a show of commitment to NYC, Delta completely rebuilt the facility, combining Terminals C and D into a single area that covers more than 120,000 m2.
