Seven New Towers Up to 55 Stories Envisioned in Toronto

A development team that consists of CentreCourt and Canadian Apartment Properties REIT envisions seven new towers ranging from 25 to 55 stories tall along Tangreen Court in the Newtonbrook community of North York, Toronto, UrbanToronto reported in April. Submitted to Toronto officials in late March, the plan is part of a densification trend in Newtonbrook ahead of Metrolinx’s planned northern extension to Toronto Transit Commission’s Line 1 with a new station at Yonge Street and Steeples Avenue. If approved, the Tangreen development would unfold in four “intensive” phases over up to 15 years on a 5.9-acre site currently home to a pair of 18-story residential towers, one of which would be retained. Observing that providing housing is “somewhere between an opportunity and a responsibility,” the developers seek to bring 3,325 new residential units, amenities, public areas, retail, parking and related infrastructure (including public roads) to the area.
