Singapore’s “Hotel in Nature” Named CTBUH Best Tall Building
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) announced that Singapore’s Pan Pacific Orchard “hotel in nature,” served by Schindler elevators, was named the 2024 Best Tall Building Worldwide during the CTBUH International Conference in London and Paris in September. Designed by Singapore-based WOHA and developed by UOL Group Ltd., Pan Pacific Orchard joins an illustrious group of past winners, including Quay Quarter Tower in Sydney in 2023 (also an ELEVATOR WORLD Project of the Year winner in the Elevators, Modernization category for Schindler), The David Rubenstein Forum in Chicago in 2022 (where Syska Hennessy provided vertical-transportation [VT] consulting and TK Elevator the VT equipment) and the supertall One Vanderbilt Avenue in NYC in 2021 (with Schindler VT). The 25-story Pan Pacific Orchard combines “nature, community and sustainability” within Singapore’s bustling Orchard District, CTBUH observed. It consists of four stacked, terraced structures, each with its own theme: forest, beach, garden and cloud, “providing guests with distinctive amenities and biomimetic landscapes at each level.” Pan Pacific Orchard “represents our commitment to building for both people and the planet,” WOHA Founding Director Mun Summ Wong said. “This project demonstrates that sustainability and hospitality can go hand-in-hand, and that skyscrapers can serve as green lungs within dense urban environments.” A full list of the 2024 winners can be found here.
