South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety To Conduct Elevator Safety Surveys

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety of South Korea announced on April 9 it will conduct a safety management survey of newly installed elevators until December, Chosun Biz reports. The survey will target manufacturers and importers and focus on companies that installed new elevators this year or violated safety certification standards last year. The Ministry aims to verify if safety certification standards under the Elevator Safety Management Act, as well as self-assessment criteria, were followed during installation. The Ministry stated, “Companies found to have violated regulations as a result of the survey will face strict measures, including referral to the police.”
