Stannah to Manage Railway Station Accessibility Upgrade
Stannah is managing a major accessibility upgrade at several South Western Railway (SWR) stations along the Wessex route in the U.K., installing a total of 13 passenger lifts to date. These upgrades are part of a broader initiative across Network Rail’s Southern region, aimed at making stations accessible for all. Funded by the Department for Transport’s “Access for All” scheme, Network Rail is working in partnership with SWR and the London Borough of Merton Council to deliver accessibility upgrades along the Wessex route. This investment aims to create step-free access around Network Rail stations and involves the installation of lifts, footbridges, staircases and other improvements. The new Stannah lifts provide step-free access to five of the seven stations along the Wessex route. With these new lifts added to the Network Rail lift maintenance contract, Stannah will take care of more than 1,800 lifts and escalators at stations across the U.K., part of their 100,000 strong lift service portfolio.
