Telangana High Court Issues PIL Due to Recent Elevator Accidents

The Telangana high court initiated a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) after receiving a letter that detailed the rise in elevator-related accidents in India, the Times of India reports. A division branch, comprised of Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara, heard the case and served notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary of the municipal administration and urban development and law secretary. The court wants the state government to give reasons for the repeated incidents, as well as the steps being taken to prevent such accidents. The bench deferred any further hearing of the suo motu case until after the summer vacation.
