The Mumbai Division of Central Railway (CR) plans to install three new escalators to ease passenger flow at the busy Mulund Station in suburban Mumbai, India, The Free Press Journal reports. Accommodating roughly 800 local trains each day, the railway station connects to South Bombay and remote areas like Khopoli and Kasara. The station handles more than 131,000 passengers daily, “making it a vital hub for Mumbai’s commuter network,” the source observed. CR’s Mumbai division recently implemented a web-based remote monitoring system for its escalators, which will also help improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience. The Mumbai Division has 132 escalators in operation, with an additional 54 being planned.
