In Kansas’s Riley County, a modernization project for three government building elevators was approved on February 27, News-Press Now reports. A 2023 inspection revealed that elevators in the courthouse, the Carnegie building and the health department building weren’t up to current state codes. Public Works Director John Ellerman informed county commissioners of the various problems with the elevator in the courthouse, including doors closing too quickly, which has resulted in an injury claim against the county after the door closed on someone’s leg. Ellerman also said the courthouse and Carnegie building elevators have been in and out of order within the past two years. TK Elevator will perform the modernization work for a total of US$523,762. The project is estimated to take 18 to 25 weeks per elevator.
