On November 20, the Armenian government announced new escalators to be installed at the Gortsaranain and David Sasuntsi stations of the Yerevan metro in Armenia, as reported by Arka. The government reported AMD308 million (US$792,860) in state funding, which will be used to help renovate the outdated escalators that have been in operation for 41 years. The replacement work at the Gortsaranain station will be completed by the end of this year, while the work at the David Sasuntci station will be finished by the beginning of next year. Named after Karen Demirchyan, the Yerevan metro was founded in 1981 and is currently made up of 10 metro stations in Yerevan. Acting General Director of the Yerevan Metro Babken Sedrakyan explained that the work includes the construction of a drainage tunnel. “Since 2022, more than AMD6.3 billion (US$16.2 million) have been allocated for the development of the metro infrastructure,” Sedrakyan said.
