UKLE Delivers Custom Platform Lift to U.K.’s National Sikh Heritage & Holocaust Museum

Platform lift installed by UKLE at the museum

UK Lift and Escalator Co. Ltd. (UKLE), with head offices in Gateshead, U.K., recently delivered a custom platform lift to the National Sikh Heritage & Holocaust Museum on Princes Street in Derby. Although a relatively small job for UKLE’s rapidly expanding modernization division, the provision of a new Machinery Directive platform lift to provide accessibility at the museum proved trickier than most, said UKLE Modernization Sales Manager Chris Chaganis.  UKLE was charged with providing a single lift solution to facilitate disabled access between two adjoining buildings. The equipment was to be centrally located to serve both the Memorial Hall and Heritage Centre, and therefore needed to be designed with a through-car arrangement. The existing buildings had varying finished floor levels, which Chaganis said were not easy to survey. Drawing on experience, the Projects Team at UKLE found a way to determine floor levels ahead of the work being completed, allowing the platform lift to be manufactured. UKLE delivered and installed the lift on deadline and within budget, resulting in a “very satisfied customer and an impressive new lift for visitors.” The success of the project led to further work for UKLE with the museum.
