Voted World’s Best Airport, Singapore Changi Airport Opens T2
Voted the World’s Best Airport in the 2023 Skytrax Airport Awards, Singapore’s Changi Airport has fully reopened Terminal 2 (T2) following a 3.5 year, 21,000-m2 expansion, CNN reports. Like other parts of the famous airport, nature figures big in T2, which boasts a 13-m-tall digital waterfall called The Wonderfall in the departure hall, a real-life garden under a digital sky that changes color based on the time of day and art installations such as Flap Pix — constructed of more than 1,000 repurposed flight information boards. The T2 expansion began in 2020 and increased the airport’s capacity by 5 million, bringing total handling capacity to 95 million passengers annually. Connecting all four of Changi Airport’s terminals, the 135,700-m2 Changi Jewel multipurpose area is outfitted with a Schindler vertical-transportation system that includes 68 escalators and moving walks. Featuring the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, Changi Jewel was ELEVATOR WORLD’s Project of the Year winner in the Escalators, New Construction category in 2020.
