VT Issues Persist at Western India Railway Station
Railway passengers in Pune, Maharashtra, India, continue to face issues navigating the station two years after a solution was proposed, The Times of India reports. The often-dysfunctional escalator at the main entrance connects all six platforms through a foot overbridge (FoB). Although a proposal for five elevators was announced two years back, it has not been sanctioned. Railway officials cite queries from the Railway Board and the need to wait for strengthening works to the ramp and FoB to be completed as reasons for the delay. Commuters have expressed their frustration with the lack of reliable vertical transportation (VT), especially as less essential construction projects are announced. Sources within the railway say it will take time for the lift installation to be complete, as tenders have not been floated yet.
