Montreal company is redefining the art of elevator interiors.

Elevator interiors rarely get a second chance to impress. Lumigraf believes elevator interiors can help elevators raise the first-impression bar without surrendering creative freedom — or a project’s overall timeline.

Lumigraf was founded in 1998 in Montreal, Canada, and for the next 25 years, the company honed its in-house design and manufacturing expertise. Initially renowned for striking casino and hospitality interiors, the company quickly discovered its decorative panels had a much broader appeal. Lumigraf likes to think of its product as a blank canvas, fully customized to client specifications: size, shape, pattern, color, opacity and luminosity.

In 2024, the company was taken over by a dynamic new ownership and management team dedicated to expanding the business across both geography and market segments. The U.S. remains Lumigraf’s core market, but the company already serves major clients in more than 20 countries as far as Asia and the Middle East, where there is strong and growing demand for its distinctive offerings. General Manager Marc-André Boisvert said:

“Teamwork is essential to our process. When we took over the business, we insisted on retaining the team in place, but we will be hiring this year, which is essential in supporting our growth while ensuring we continue to provide high quality and design standards, as well as maintain our commitment to a fast and efficient design-to-delivery cycle. Bringing a fresh vision to elevator design is central to this growth strategy.”

Lumigraf’s design team is continuously experimenting with new and attractive looks, but the focus remains on translating client specifications into the panels. Initial designs are incorporated into polycarbonate panels — which have a class “A” fire rating — using a proprietary process to deliver an interior look that captures the exact effect desired. The ability to use back or side LED lighting through a material where opacity is carefully controlled further enhances the dramatic appearance of the carefully crafted panels.

For clients that want to play with lighting and effects, Lumigraf panels can feature backlighting or stunning metallic coatings that range from subtle sophistication to a bold play on light. The company’s latest Mocha Mousse collection exemplifies this flexibility, allowing designers to adapt colors and textures precisely to their creative vision. Every design is crafted in-house, continuously evolving to reflect current trends while pushing creative boundaries. While the popular marble designs remain a classic staple, the real excitement comes from surprising new finishes like matte laser effects. “Seeing the matte and metallic effects in person is unbelievable,” Boisvert said. “Photos rarely do them justice.”

Another advantage is speed. All Lumigraf panels are made to order, cut to order and typically ship within 15 business days. Panels arrive ready to install and precision-machined to elevator cab specifications. No heavy substrates or specialized tooling is required. Streamlined and straightforward, installation is easy. All this saves on cost, another big advantage of the product: When projects run against budget constraints, design features and expensive add-ons are often the first to be cut. But Boisvert points out that Lumigraf’s panels remain the most cost-efficient way to dramatically enhance the look and feel of any interior space.

Looking ahead, Lumigraf is poised for growth, particularly within the elevator interiors and custom event markets. Already partnering with key elevator manufacturers in the U.S., the company recognizes the vast untapped opportunities around the world.
For architects and designers, Lumigraf delivers three key advantages: freedom to dream bigger, agility to adapt and deliver faster and the confidence to achieve outstanding results every time.
