Greece Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos has called on citizens to participate in the national elevator census, describing it as “an important process for everyone’s safety,” ekathimerini.com reports. The registration process is mandatory, free of charge and available online until November 30. Each elevator entered into the system will receive a unique registration number, required for legal and safe operation. Information needed for registration is the year of installation, number of stops, operating status, certification and property registration number. Missing data can be marked as “unknown” or “temporarily unavailable.” Failure to register by the deadline will result in fines, and unregistered lifts may be sealed. So far, approximately 80,000 elevators out of an estimated 900,000 nationwide have been registered.
