LEIA Urges U.K. Government to Reassess Self-Isolation Rules

The U.K.’s Lift and Escalator Industry Association (LEIA) has joined a call from industry sectors including retail, manufacturing and construction to re-examine current COVID-19 self-isolation rules, citing fear of a worker shortage as the holiday season approaches, LEIA announced on July 20. While LEIA welcomed the U.K. government’s announcement that self-isolation is set to end for fully vaccinated people and most school pupils starting on August 16, the association said that date should be moved up. Most lift and escalator companies had strong health and safety management systems in place prior to the pandemic, and have adapted well to managing workplace risk, LEIA Managing Director Nick Mellor said, adding that many will keep COVID-19 measures in place even after the government’s change in guidance.
