Old Elevator in the Pearl of the Mediterranean

On a recent trip to Alexandria, Egypt, the family of ELEVATOR WORLD staff member Hanno van der Bijl took these photos of an old elevator. The building is owned by a neighboring Anglican church, St. Mark’s Pro-Cathedral, which rents out space to various vendors. In keeping with the city’s rich intellectual history, the cathedral hopes to turn it into a theological school to train aspiring ministers. The elevator is currently not in working order, but wouldn’t it be amazing if it were? Along with peace in the Middle East, perhaps that is something for which we could all pray.

Since 1953, Elevator World, Inc. has been the premier publisher for the global vertical transportation industry. It employs specialists in Mobile, Alabama, and has technical and news correspondents around the world.
