Boy Hurt After Falling Through Escalator Gap In India

A child visiting a multistory textile showroom in Madurai, India, with his mother and aunt was hurt November 2 when he fell from the fifth floor after slipping through a gap next to the escalator, The Hindu reports. While the women were looking at some of the store’s products, the boy put his hand on the escalator handrail, which pulled him to the gap. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was being treated for head injuries. The incident is being investigated by police, but the women said improper upkeep made the escalator unsafe for children.
