KONE announced on December 9 it has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance its global cloud capabilities, such as Internet of Things (IoT) and analytics. The companies plan to work together to develop new technologies to strengthen the scalability and performance of KONE’s connected services and solutions. Describing AWS as “the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud offering,” KONE observed value-added services such as KONE 24/7 Connected Services — to which 160,000 elevators and escalators are connected — promise to revolutionize the role of elevators and smart buildings. The OEM’s goal is to enable its 1.4-million-unit maintenance base with 24/7 Connected Services by using AWS services including AWS IoT Devices Management and Amazon API Gateway, among others. KONE said that architects, developers and system integrators can offer new digital services that extend from the lobby throughout the building. For example, using the KONE Digital Platform, a hotel could create a personalized experience for their guests, combining elevator lighting and streaming music, providing specific content on media screens inside the elevator and providing integrated service robots to provide room-service deliveries.
