New Moving Walk Eases Commute at Singapore MRT Station

A new moving walk linking the Green and Purple Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines at the Outram Park MRT station in central Singapore debuted on May 29, MS News reports. The moving walk is complemented by large, directional signage to make navigation easier for commuters going between the East West Line (EWL) and North East Line. As the moving walk approaches the EWL side, it splits in two, with each section taking travelers to a separate escalator to the platform above. The effort to improve the older, Outram Park station takes place as Singapore’s Land Transport Authority gets closer to launching stage three of the Thomson-East Coast Line, a fully underground MRT line that, when all five stages are complete, will span 27 m served by 32 stations. It will become one of the world’s longest driverless MRT lines.
