Two Elevators Among Accessibility Upgrades at Chicago Transit Station

Two elevators serving both platforms of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)’s California Blue Line station at Logan Square are part of a plan for US$36 million in accessibility upgrades that took a step forward on June 16 with the City Council Finance Committee saying state capital funds will cover most of the costs, Block Club Chicago reports. The rest — US5.6 million — will come from tax increment financing, or TIF, dollars. The plan awaits approval from the full City Council. Originally built in 1895, the Logan Square station is one of eight to receive accessibility enhancements as part of CTA’s All Stations Accessibility Program, which aims to make all “L” stations accessible by 2040. In addition to elevators, the Logan Square station is set to get three new sets of stairs with emergency exits, wider platforms and other station and street improvements.
