General contractor SAMET Corp. is set to break ground later this summer on the 27-story The Novus, designed by LS3P and developed by Austin Lawrence Partners on the former site of a 1970s bank in downtown Durham, North Carolina, The News & Observer reports. To take shape next to the Downtown Loop in an area bustling with bars and restaurants, The Novus will be the city’s second 27-story building (the downtown height limit) and will bring 54 condominium units, 188 apartments and ground-level retail to a city experiencing job growth and home to several universities. Investors, including Global Holdings Management Group, with U.S. headquarters in NYC, are taking notice: Austin Lawrence Partners recently announced an equity partnership with the firm to finance The Novus. Plans for a second building on the property are expected to be announced in 2023.
