Residents living on the upper floors of the 18-story residential Tower D of Elegant Ville in Ghaziabad, India, were seen crossing over to the adjacent Tower E using wooden planks after the only lift in the building stopped working, according to reports in India Today. Residents have put two plywood slabs on either side of the parapet wall and a third to close the gap between the two buildings, which measures approximately 2 m. Children have reportedly also been using the planks to cross to the other building. It is unclear exactly when the elevator stopped working, but an official of the maintenance agency insisted that the elevator had been repaired on July 24. However, a guard at the housing society said the lift was yet to be fixed. The residents of Tower D also contested the maintenance official’s claim. The building is home to around 60 families with six flats on each floor.
