Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally launched construction of a pair of elevators at Arulmigu Subramaniyaswami Temple in India’s southern Tamil Nadu province on April 6, The Hindu is among outlets to report. The elevators — one from the foothills to the temple office and the other from the foothills to the top — are being installed at a cost of what equates to millions of U.S. dollars. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees each day, and the elevators will save the elderly and others with mobility issues from having to climb 125 steps from the car parking area. Conducted by video conference, the construction launch was also attended by District Collector Kranti Kumar Pati, Superintendent of Police V. Badrinarayanan and District Forest Officer Jayaraj.
