The University Club on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is undergoing renovations and is set to reopen in 2024, The Tuscaloosa News reports. The US$17.4 million project will renovate dining and event space, the south parlor, the north parlor and add additional dining and event space, restrooms, a boardroom, a stairwell and a second-floor veranda and balcony overlooking the south garden. The north addition will include elevators and stairs on the north side. When reopened, there will be two elevators: one for patrons and one for service staff. The project will also create architectural and historic coherence between some of the various eras of the building, which have been added since its construction in the late 1820s. The previous renovation of the University Club was a US$3 million project in 2003. The club has been closed since March 2020, when operations ceased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is scheduled to reopen in May 2024.
