The first two of almost 100 escalators to be installed in the Cross River Rail’s (CRR) underground stations have been placed at the Brisbane, Australia, project’s Woolloongabba site, Rail Express reports. In total, 24 escalators will be installed at this station, with 29 at Albert Street, 28 at Roma Street and 14 at Boggo Road. The installation of the first escalators marks the next phase of construction as the CRR project moves from excavation and bulk civil works to the mechanical and electrical fit out of the stations themselves. The 112-m-long, 17.5-T escalators will take passengers to and from the train platform and station concourse, while even bigger escalators (21-m long and weighing about 26 T) that will take passengers from the surface down into the underground stations are still to come. Each underground station will also include elevators that will assist passengers with accessibility needs.
