Although attendance for the 48th Annual Pop/Joe Memorial Golf Outing honoring “Pop” Frohlinger and Joe Marchese was a sell out on paper, the golf portion of the event was canceled on September 25 due to the remnants of Tropical Storm Ophelia, which made landfall in North Carolina on September 23 and caused heavy rain in New York through the 25th. Regardless, many attended the dinner portion of the event at the Brookville Country Club in Old Brookville, NY. In accepting the Gene Frohlinger Distinguished Service Award, honoree Greg DeCola of vda® Elevator & Escalator Consulting, Inc. (VDA), gave a heartfelt speech with his family by his side. The dinner was dedicated to the late Walt and Herb Glaser of GAL Manufacturing Corp. To keep the outing going, new blood — including DeCola and Mike Coyle of The Peelle Co. — is joining the Pop/Joe. Although not booked a press time, the next outing will take place either before or after the National Association of Elevator Contractors convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 2024. — reported by ELEVATOR WORLD Correspondent Matthew Jackson
