London-based architect Jordan William Hughes has won the Jacques Roguerie International Competition’s “Architecture and Innovation for Space” Grand Prix Award for his conceptual design of a space elevator linking the ocean to the cosmos, The Mail reports. Hughes is employed by Foster + Partners, and he worked on his winning drawings over several months during his spare time. He was presented with the award and a EUR10,000 (US$10,945) cash prize at a ceremony in Paris in late 2023. Recently, NASA astronauts have been testing a full-scale mock-up of an elevator concept that would lower crew members from a starship to the surface of the Moon as part of the Artemis III mission, planned for 2025.
