The Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson, Mississippi, will be getting nine new vertical-transportation (VT) units this year, The Northside Sun reports. The US$5.3-million project, which includes replacing all four escalators and five of seven elevators in the terminal building, is being made possible by the U.S. Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Terminals Program. The VT units, frequently under repair, are approximately 60 years old — well past their useful service life. Schindler performs VT maintenance at the airport serving the state capital, and local company Paul Jackson & Son will oversee the VT work, set to begin by July. Escalators will be replaced one at a time to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility.
