A huge crowd celebrates the long, distinguished career of Morris “Des” DeSimone, Jr.
On June 28, more than 150 family members, friends and coworkers joined together to say “happy retirement” to our dear and beloved friend, Morris “Des” DeSimone, Jr. DeSimone celebrated 57 years of outstanding service in the elevator trade. Friends and coworkers honored him with stories of thanks, times past and a bit of a roast to lighten the heavy hearts and teary eyes all over the room.
Starting in the elevator trade on June 1, 1957, out of Local 10 in Washington, D.C., DeSimone had just graduated high school two weeks prior to getting hired by Otis. Through the years, he traveled up and down the U.S. East Coast and flew all over the U.S. as a mechanic, then adjustor, then supervisor, then District and Operations manager.
DeSimone has been a board member of NAESA International since the 1990s and sat on its board of certification. He has also been a board member of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation. Never a benchwarmer, DeSimone has always been a heavy hitter and our most valuable player. As recently written by John Koshak of Elevator Safety Solutions, LLC, “His willingness to give back to the industry is a testament to his vast appreciation of all he had gained from it.”
DeSimone has been a member of the Quality Elevator Co. family for 16 years, and we will miss him. We love him and will miss the major contribution he has made to our company and to the elevator industry.
