An Age of Wonder

ELEVATOR WORLD Correspondent Dr. Lee Gray sent in these images of a mid 1950s brochure with the following commentary:

“The technology associated with vertical transportation is taken for granted in the 21st century. However, there was a time, not that long ago, when it was something new and wonderful. This fact is keenly illustrated by the promotional brochure prepared by Robertson’s of South Bend (a well-known regional department store) that proudly announced the dedication of its new escalators, which included ‘Northern Indiana’s first escalator.’”
