Hyundai Motor Group to Build South Korea’s Tallest

A 105-story, 569-m-tall skyscraper that would serve as headquarters for Hyundai Motor Group in the Gangnam District of Seoul could start construction within the year, thanks to the city government speeding up the approval process, Pulse was among news outlets to report. The plan for the group’s Global Business Center (GBC), which will house office, conference, retail and hotel space, had been delayed as planners evaluated potential impact on southern Seoul. Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and Hyundai Engineering Co. will undertake development of the multibillion-dollar project, which will surpass the 555-m-tall Lotte World Tower (ELEVATOR WORLD’s Project of the Year winner in Elevators, New Construction, January 2018) in height, making it South Korea’s tallest building.

Structural Work Wraps on Country’s Second Tallest

Structural work that involved 110,000 mT of steel and 610,000 m3 of concrete has been completed by POSCO Engineering & Construction on Haeundae LCT The Sharp in Busan, for which Mitsubishi Electric is providing the vertical-transportation system (EW, October 2016), The Korea Times reported. Upon completion, its 101-story Landmark Tower, containing a hotel operated by Lotte Hotels & Resorts and serviced apartments, will be the second tallest building in the country after Lotte World Tower. The development also includes a pair of 85-story apartment buildings that together will house 882 apartments, along with a shopping mall and water park. Construction that is wind and earthquake resistant includes materials such as a new high-performance steel developed by POSCO.
