Balancing New Elevations in VT Industry Equations

Balancing New Elevations in VT Industry Equations

What goes up must come down, and what goes down must come up again. This maxim on industry trend cycles also describes the daily role and responsibilities of the elevator and escalator industry. While the real estate sector has indeed progressed by leaps and bounds, scaling greater heights with each year, this growth trajectory would not have been possible without the vertical-transportation (VT) industry’s essential contribution.

Each aspect that the construction of high-rise structures entails involves a blend of global and local (also known as “glocal”) collaboration. From planning to designing, materials to manpower and techniques to technologies, each has a combination of national and international best practices and best brands, therefore ensuring the best of both worlds. Obviously, this applies to the VT aspect of the process, as well.

The content theme of this ELEVATOR WORLD India issue — Collaborating With a “Glocal” Approach — aims to analyize the key benefits and long-term implications of ensuring the best of both worlds by leveraging the inherent strengths of each. From VT industry experts to stakeholders from across the spectrum, we present insights and perspectives on what we can look forward to at a macro and micro level. A new VT industry event featured in this issue, the inaugural edition of Smart Lift & Mobility (SLM) World 2024, also reflects this approach, which indeed paid rich dividends.

Most of the VT OEMs have begun to increase their focus on “Make in India” and have been emphasizing the growing portfolio of their “Made in India” range of offerings in markets worldwide. The message reverberating everywhere is that multinational brands from the VT industry are manufacturing products in India incorporating the latest, advanced technology that is being used by them for international markets.

The result is a win-win scenario where the prime metros across India offer several top-notch skyscrapers that are on par with the best in any major city worldwide in all aspects, including the elevators and escalators.

Each level of glocal collaboration enables scripting of more and more success stories while inspiring and encouraging many more such joint initiatives as well. It is becoming increasingly evident that combining national and international mindsets is, indeed, an ideal recipe for formulating the perfect merger that benefits one and all.
