Hines’ New HQ to Be Striking Addition to Houston Skyline

Developer Hines and architect Pelli Clarke Pelli, the team behind Salesforce Tower in San Francisco (ELEVATOR WORLD, August 2017), now have their eyes on downtown Houston, where a 47-story, 1-million-sq.-ft. “next-generation” office tower is planned, the Houston Chronicle reported. To take shape on the 800 block of Texas Avenue on a site formerly occupied by the Chronicle, the tower “captures many of our best practices from around the world,” according to Hines Senior Managing Director John Mooz. Those include linear “sky atriums,” plenty of natural light, ground- level restaurants and other amenities, outdoor space and areas designed to encourage interaction. Hines will be moving its headquarters from the Galleria area to the new, yet-to-be-named tower, and a major law firm has also signed on. The building is set to open in late 2021.

High-Rise Tower Set for Dallas Arts District

The last piece of undeveloped real estate in the Dallas Arts District will soon be home to Atelier, a 41-story residential building, Skyrise Cities reported in July. Atelier, which means “artist workshop,” will have 364 luxury residences and 52 mixed- income artists’ lofts, including 43 affordable artist residences. It will have about 15,000 sq. ft. for retail outlets, plus gallery space and 553 parking slots. An amenities deck on the 11th floor will have a pool, lounge, fitness center, co-working space and a dog salon.

Atelier’s exterior is a series of five-story sections that designer Stantec refers to as “galleries.” The building, which will join neighborhood cultural amenities such as the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Meyerson Symphony Center, is “being built on the idea of patronage,” said Andrew Burnett, principal at Stantec’s Miami office. “The building’s modern design will integrate with its neighboring performing and visual arts venues, while also supporting local artists, residents and community members who share a common need to create beauty.” Developer ZOM Living expects to be ready for tenants in 2020.
